La Jornada «Collaborative medication management in mental health: towards a new care culture», held on December 13, 2019, addressed the need to move towards a new culture in the use of psychotropic drugs.

The meeting was promoted by Healthcare Ethics Committee of the FCCSM (CEA), the URV MARC and the Open University of Catalonia.

The objective was to present the work developed on the Collaborative Medication Management and open the debate with professionals from the public mental health network.

Medication Management, also known as Autonomous Medication Management (AMM), proposes placing the person taking psychotropic drugs in a more active role in decisions about their treatment.

The importance of guaranteeing access to clear and complete information about medications, their effects, and potential alternatives was highlighted.

The conference raised the need to move beyond excessively paternalistic models and advance towards a shared decision-making.

This approach is particularly relevant for people taking antipsychotic medication who are in situations of greater vulnerability or risk of exclusion.

The limitations and uneven results of pharmacological treatments in certain mental health disorders were also put on the table.

The debate claimed participation, autonomy, and people's knowledge as essential elements of care.

The Conference thus helped to promote a new care culture based on information, dialogue, and the active participation of individuals in the management of their medication.
