La Jornada «For mental health in accordance with rights. From rhetoric to practice», held on March 24, 2023, addressed the need to place the rights of individuals at the center of mental health care.

Organized by Clinical Ethics Committee (CEA) of the FCCSM, the meeting provided continuity to the work on basic rights in psychiatric internments.

Current care practices and situations where patients' rights may be violated or sidelined were discussed.

The conference took as a reference the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and the new rights-based paradigm.

Focus was placed on the need to recognize individuals as active subjects in their care and recovery process.

Structural, organizational, and professional barriers hindering this change in the care model were also analyzed.

The meeting highlighted the importance of overcoming attitudes of resistance to change and ensuring that the voice and preferences of patients are heard.

At the same time, professional experiences and positions that already incorporate a more respectful and participatory care culture were highlighted.

With a turnout of about 200 people, the conference promoted debate on the necessary transformations in mental health practices.

Ultimately, it contributed to making the step a reality from the rhetoric of rights to a care practice that makes them effective, placing the person and their dignity at the center of care.
