La Jornada «Extremisms and their violent drifts. Subjectivity and social bond», held on October 4, 2019, addressed violence as a complex social phenomenon rather than a natural or inevitable reality.

The meeting reflected on the relationship between violence, the construction of subjectivity, and the transformation of social and community bonds.

It became evident that the different forms of violence leave deep consequences on the people who suffer them and on their environments.

The conference analyzed various expressions of violence present in society, especially those affecting individuals and groups in situations of greatest vulnerability.

Phenomena such as male violence, gender-radicalized groups, and attacks against migrants were addressed.

The growth of far-right groups and the dynamics associated with violent youth gangs were also reflected upon.

Another area of analysis was the forms of coercive control and group abuse, present in destructive sects and other dynamics of domination.

The conference paid special attention to the processes of ideological radicalization and their possible drift toward violence and terrorism.

The debate invited us to understand these phenomena from a perspective social, community, and psychosocial, beyond individual explanations.

Ultimately, the Conference raised the need to rethink social and community ties to understand, prevent, and address the different expressions of extremism and violence.
